Aegean to launch Larnaca to Heathrow route

Greek carrier Aegean Airlines will launch a new route from Larnaca to London Heathrow in March.

The Star Alliance member's announcement follows last week's shutdown of Cyprus Airways (see news, January 12).

It will commence the new daily service on March 29.

Heathrow will be one of six new Aegean routes from Larnaca set to start on that date, the others being Beirut, Milan Malpensa, Munich, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Rome Fiumicino.

The airline is also set to launch a new route from Gatwick to Heraklion, Crete, from June 21 with up to six flights per week during the summer season.

Aegean already flies from Heathrow to Athens three times daily and also operates a four-times weekly Gatwick to Athens winter service.

It also announced that it will continue its Birmingham to Athens seasonal service this summer and its Manchester to Athens route will operate year-round instead of summer only.

Earlier this week, British Airways said it will almost double its London Heathrow to Larnaca operation this summer (see news, January 12).
