The promotion is valid for online reservations and rentals at 3,400 participating Budget branches in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa. It is only available for bookings made online and does not apply in Jordan, Norway or Poland. To qualify, members must enter their Miles & More service card number when booking their rental car and present their card when collecting the vehicle. The offer cannot be combined with other promotions. Hilton opens Hampton hotel in Newcastle

The 160-room Hampton by Hilton Newcastle is located on Neville Street, opposite Newcastle Central Station in the centre of the city. Originally announced two years ago (see news, March 2013), the redesign includes the hotel lobby, dining area and guestrooms, and a new food and beverage offering. Norwegian pilots’ strike continues

The airline confirmed that almost 35,000 passengers will again be unable to fly, due to the cancellation of almost all its local services. Qatar Airways buys Sheraton Skyline

The property will shortly be rebranded as Oryx Sheraton Skyline London Heathrow. The Oryx brand is known to travellers not only from Oryx Inflight Entertainment on-board Qatar Airways flights and from the livery of the aircraft, but also the Oryx Rotana Doha property close to Hamad International airport that has been open for several years. Ryanair to open Berlin base

The budget carrier said it will launch 16 new routes from the German capital this winter, making a total of 22 routes and 191 weekly flights. The new destinations will be Alicante, Athens, Barcelona, Bari, Bologna, Bratislava, Brussels, Glasgow, Madrid, Malaga, Palermo, Palma, Riga, Rome Ciampino, Venice and Valencia. Chinese company buys 1,100-hotel Louvre portfolio

Louvre Hotels is the second-largest European hospitality group, with a network of some 1,100 hotels in over 40 countries worldwide. Louvre and its parent Groupe du Louvre are being taken over by the Luxembourg-based subsidiary unit Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels Development, of which Jin Jiang International is the largest shareholder. The acquisition could prove important for travellers as it opens up the opportunity for Jin Jiang to bring the Louvre brand over to Asia. Qatar Airways first class lounge to open in April

The carrier's CEO Akbar Al Baker confirmed the news to Business Traveller at this week's ITB conference in Berlin. The lounge has been delayed well beyond the opening of the airport. Al Baker made reference to the delay saying it was as a result of "very high standards and amenities" being installed. Lufthansa first class fitted across Munich fleet

The German carrier said that this winter a total of 24 A340-600 and A330-300 aircraft will fly to 22 international destinations from Munich. The airline will now retrofit its new first and business classes onto the remainder of its long-haul fleet (not based in Munich). Hilton London Docklands Riverside to rebrand as a Doubletree

The property will become Doubletree by Hilton London Docklands this spring and will be the brand's 11th hotel in the capital. It is in close proximity to Canary Wharf, Olympic Park, Westfield Stratford City, Excel exhibition centre, O2 arena and London City Airport.  Renovations planned include refurbishing the hotel's 378 guestrooms, reception area, ferry entrance, 16 meeting rooms, Terrace Restaurant, Terrace Lounge Bar and kitchen.
