ANA to fly Tokyo Narita to Houston

The Japanese carrier will operate a B777-300ER aircraft on the route, which starts on June 12. Outbound service NH174 will depart Narita at 1115 and arrive at George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 0930 local time. Return service NH173 will take-off from Houston at 1120 and land in Tokyo at 1520 the following day. Norwegian to launch three Birmingham services to Spain

The budget airline will fly thrice-weekly to Madrid and Malaga and twice-weekly to Barcelona. All three services will be operated by B737-800 aircraft. The Madrid route will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from March 31; the Malaga route on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from March 30; and the Barcelona route on Mondays and Fridays from June 1. Cathay Pacific launches Manchester-Hong Kong route

The inaugural flight was due to land in Manchester at 0620, before departing for the return leg at midday. Cathay is serving the route with B777-300ER aircraft in a three-class configuration, with 40 seats in business class, 32 in premium economy and 268 of the carrier’s new economy class seats. United trials Mileage Plus X mobile app for in-store purchases

At present the new app has only been released to a select group of Mileage Plus members, but the carrier says it plans to extend it to all members and offer more retailers soon. The iOS and Android Mileage Plus X app allows users to browse for nearby participating retailers (which currently include Lowe’s, Sears, Gap and AMC Theatres), and view the amount of miles they can earn on purchases. Blue Islands and Cityjet announce codeshare

The partnership will allow passengers to take daily return trips from Jersey to European cities including Amsterdam and Paris, and will launch “early next year”, with the exact date being announced in the next few weeks as schedules are finalised. The news follows Blue Islands’ decision to cease its alternate day direct flights from Jersey to Amsterdam and Paris on January 5. Blue Islands will also add an additional lunchtime service to London City, offering 25,000 extra seats per year, representing a 45 per cent increase in capacity. Manchester airport station to close for improvement works

Between January 11 and 17 only two of the three platforms will be open, and the station will then close to all trains until February 9. Ryanair and Easyjet see traffic grow

Easyjet reported a 3.1 per cent rise in passengers, with 4,386,296 travellers this November, compared to 4,255,978 in November 2013. The carrier’s load factor also rose from 89 to 89.5 per cent for the same periods. Meanwhile Ryanair’s November figures were even more impressive, with a 22 per cent rise in passenger numbers (from 5.2 million to 6.35 million), and a 7 per cent increase in load factors (from 81 to 88 per cent). The Langham, Sydney to reopen next week

The Langham, Sydney closed in July so that the renovation project could take place. It will reopen on December 2. In a statement, the group said: "Each light switch, fitting, fixture, chandelier, every piece of marble is being replaced with a more superior product." Features include a new day spa, five new event spaces, hand-curated art by Sotheby's, Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood, and fine-dining restaurant Kent Street Kitchen.
