Cathay Pacific cancels Moscow service

Cathay Pacific is cancelling its thrice-weekly service to Moscow.

The airline will no longer fly Hong Kong to the Russian capital from June 1, it was announced today.

"Alternative arrangements will be made" for passengers already booked on flights after that date.

Last month, both Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways cut services to Moscow (see news, February 24 and February 24).

Cathay blamed the decision on high operating costs and declining passenger numbers.

A statement said: "The airline will maintain a presence in Moscow to coordinate sales activities for flights through its other gateways in western Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

"Connectivity with Moscow and other points in Russia will be maintained through Oneworld partner S7 and other Oneworld member airlines."

Earlier this week, it emerged that Cathay had reportedly finalised the seating configuration of its A350 XWB aircraft (see news, March 18).
