Etihad Airways yesterday unveiled its first A380 and B787-9 aircraft.

The Gulf airline will operate a three-times daily A380 service to Heathrow by the end of next year.

The A380 will debut with a daily service to London Heathrow from December 27, while the B787 will fly to Dusseldorf from February 1.

Etihad will take delivery of four A380s and three Boeing 787-9s in 2015. Both aircraft also feature Etihad's new cabin interior.

The A380 contains a luxury Residence by Etihad three-room suite, with a living room, ensuite shower room, bedroom and dedicated butler, and nine First Apartments, each featuring a reclining lounge chair and an ottoman and opens up to become a separate 80.5-inch fully-flat bed. It also has 70 business class seats.

The B787-9 has eight First Suites, each with a mini-bar and centre seats that can be joined to create a double bed, and 28 business seats.

And, both jets feature Etihad's new "Facets of Abu Dhabi" livery, inspired by "traditional Emirati design patterns, the landscapes of the desert and the geometric shapes found in the modern architecture of Abu Dhabi".

Etihad also revealed its new cabin crew uniform, which was designed by Italian couturier Ettore Bilotta and will be introduced from December 27.

James Hogan, Etihad's president and CEO, said: "As we have done so many times in our short history, we are reshaping the landscape of modern air travel in our own way.

"Today is the culmination of many years of hard work and tremendous endeavour by hundreds of people both in our airline and outside.

"With the launch of these aircraft, we usher in a new era of unparalleled luxury, comfort and service. These innovations represent our vision for the future."

Will the 787 really have the Residence?
